Emerging Trends in Education

One trend that I have heard more and more about lately is Micro learning. A micro learning lesson is a lesson that is short, flexible, interactive, and only focuses on one topic. With a new generation of children entering our education system microlearning is a trend that claims to be more beneficial to students with shorter attention spans. Technology is something that allows us to take advantage of the way that human attention span works. Microlearning allows teachers to catch the attention of the students and allow them to learn at their best.

Here are 4 key elements to Microlearning:

Micro learning reshapes education for both the students and the teachers. Whereas in the past, students learned at the same exact pace as their classmates, with Microlearning, students can learn at their own pace. Students are given the power to choose at what pace they want to learn. Lexia's website says this about Microlearning, "Grading and going over material becomes easier when students are able to explore learning independently." Ultimately, it reshapes the role that a teacher might have in the classroom.

Here's how Microlearning both benefits and reshapes education:

One of the largest trends that is emerging in education is what is the role of the teacher. Has technology become a more integral part of school, the role of the teacher ought to change. But his change does not go without its challenges. Some will say the role of the teacher ought to stay in the traditional classroom setting. While others claim that the role of the teacher ought to be that of a facilitator who guides the students in the learning. Still others might claim that the role of the teacher is being completely replaced by technology like AI (more of a futuristic thought). Each side has many decent arguments to back their claim on why their view is the best for the role of a teacher in the classroom.

My opinion is that the role of a teacher is a guide for the students. Technology is an amazing thing that can help teachers more fully meet the needs of their students individually. It is a great tool to enhance the students learning as well as allow students to be active in their learning. Students can become producers of content as they learn! We must not ever forget our students as we look at emerging trends in education. Any change made should be for the good of the students...not to save money.
